About this role (from Honey Homes's posting)
ABOUT HONEY HOMES
Honey Homes is reimagining homeownership through a membership that makes maintaining a home effortless. Our members have a dedicated handyman who proactively cares for their home year-round, helping prevent small problems from becoming expensive ones.
Our members increasingly bring us bigger jobs: exterior repaints, deck and fence rebuilds, siding and dry-rot repair, bathroom updates, built-ins, etc. Our Large Projects team scopes, prices, and delivers that work. The Project Scoping Specialist owns the front half of every one of those projects: the conversation with the member, the scope, and the estimate. Within the funnel, an SDR or walkthrough-booker gets the scoping call on the calendar, the scoper owns everything from the scoping call to a signed yes (scope, estimate, and member follow-up), and member success owns scheduling and billing.
Every day you'll meet homeowners on video, walk their project with them, and turn what you learn into a complete, accurate estimate that you build and submit yourself. You'll decide when a project can be priced remotely and when it needs a visit or a specialist, keep every project moving through our pipeline, and hand accepted jobs to our crews with everything they need to do the work right the first time.
This is an ideal role for someone who has built and fixed things for a living, understands how homes actually work, genuinely enjoys homeowners, and wants to use modern tools, including AI, to make estimating faster and more accurate than it has ever been.
This role is hybrid 3-4 days per week in our Oakland headquarters, or remote for non-CA candidates.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Run the scoping consultation
You'll run our virtual scoping calls: 15-minute video consultations, recorded and prepared. Before each call you'll review the member's photos, prior messages, handyperson notes, and intake answers on budget and timeline, so you never ask a member to repeat themselves. On the call you capture two things: the scope, and the member's intent. What they actually want and why, their timeline, and what is driving or holding the decision. You narrow to one scope, define what is in and what is out, and count and measure the quantities that drive price rather than taking them on faith.
Build and submit the estimate
You turn each call into a complete estimate within 24 hours: written scope, quantities, labor hours, crew and days, materials, and price using our pricing framework, submitted through our estimate tools. Our field lead reviews every estimate for scope and quality before it goes to the member; you turn revisions around the same day. The goal is an estimate in the member's hands within a day of their call, approved on the first pass, and same day when the project is simple enough to price live. When a few variables are still open, a tight price range with the drivers spelled out keeps the member moving, and you firm it up to a final number once they decide to proceed.
Decide the next step
Not every call ends in an estimate, and that's expected. You'll decide, quickly and with a written reason, whether a project should be quoted remotely, routed to an in-person visit, referred to a partner or specialist, or declined as not a fit. When a visit is needed, you work with our member success team to get it scheduled within 24 hours. When a project isn't a fit, the member hears it clearly and kindly.
Keep the pipeline moving
You own the scoping stages of our project pipeline in our CRM. Every lead has a next step, an owner, and a date. No completed scoping call sits without an estimate for more than a business day, and stalled projects get flagged before anyone has to ask.
Own the member relationship and win the work
You're the member's point of contact from the scoping call to a signed yes. You build their confidence in the project, walk them through the estimate and the tradeoffs, and help them make the calls that unlock a decision: materials, timing, and scope. When a member is on the fence, you run the follow-up directly, surface what's holding them back, and help them move. You get good projects booked the way a trusted builder who runs their own business would: not by pushing, but by making a confusing project feel clear and doable. Member success owns scheduling and billing; the follow-up to close is yours.
Set the crew up to succeed
When an estimate is accepted, you hand it off with a job brief: scope, measurements, materials, member preferences, access notes, and photos, attached to the crew's task before day one. What was promised on the call is what gets built, and the crew starts without a phone call.
Use AI to multiply your impact
You'll use AI tools like Claude to structure your call notes, draft scopes from transcripts, and turn recurring project types into templates. We expect everyone on the team to actively experiment with new tools, test ideas, and continuously improve how work gets done, including emerging video and measurement tools that make remote scoping more accurate.
Build the playbook
Every call you log feeds a scoping playbook. You'll spot recurring project patterns, help create standard pricing and scoping templates, and push toward a world where routine jobs are quoted in minutes and only the complex ones need a specialist's eye. We don't wait for someone else to identify problems; we expect you to find them, propose fixes, and follow through.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within your first year, you'll:
- Run every virtual scoping consultation for the Large Projects team and be the person members and teammates trust to get the scope right.
- Deliver a complete estimate within 24 hours of every call, with most estimates approved by our field lead on the first pass.
- Make clear, well-reasoned routing decisions, so in-person visits, partner referrals, and declines happen within a day instead of lingering.
- Keep the scoping pipeline clean and current, with no completed call waiting on an estimate and no lead without a next step.
- Hand off accepted jobs with briefs complete enough that crews start on day one without questions, and estimates that hold up against actual hours.
- Build the templates, standard pricing inputs, and AI-assisted workflows that let the team quote standard projects in minutes.
- Become a trusted partner to member success, our field lead, and our program lead, with a measurable effect on call-to-estimate turnaround, first-pass approval rate, estimate acceptance rate, and revenue booked.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who has real construction experience, understands how homes are maintained and repaired, and is genuinely energized by talking with homeowners.
The strongest candidates will bring many of the following:
- 3+ years of hands-on residential construction, remodeling, handyman, or home-improvement experience (required). You can look at photos and a video walkthrough of a deck, a fence line, a bathroom, or a stretch of siding and see the tasks, the sequence, the materials, and the surprises hiding behind them.
- Working knowledge of home maintenance and repair: how common projects are done, what they take, and what goes wrong.
- Experience producing written scopes or estimates with labor hours and materials, ideally including photo- or video-based estimating.
- A customer-forward style. You put homeowners at ease on camera, ask good questions, listen for what they want and why, and represent Honey Homes with warmth and credibility in a 15-minute window.
- Comfort owning the outcome, not just the estimate. You can build a homeowner's confidence, handle questions on process and price, and help an undecided member reach a confident yes, then follow up until the project is booked. Consultative, not high-pressure.
- Outstanding written communication. Your scopes leave nothing to interpretation and your notes let a crew start without a phone call.
- Strong organizational
