About this role (from Oklo's posting)

Thanks for your interest in Oklo! We are searching for a Senior Workday Systems Analyst to join our team. Position Description Oklo is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Workday Systems Analyst to help build and scale the systems that support our people and our mission. In this role, you will serve as the primary functional owner of Workday and the go-to expert for our Human Capital Management (HCM) systems. You will partner closely with People and Business Operations, Payroll, Finance, IT, Internal Audit, and leaders across the company to translate business needs into secure, scalable, and well-documented solutions. Your work will directly support data quality, strong controls, and an effective experience for employees, managers, and administrators. You will own the full lifecycle of our Workday environment, including solution design, configuration, business process optimization, testing, release management, integrations, reporting, and production support. You will balance long-term planning with detailed execution, addressing immediate needs while building a foundation that can support Oklo as we grow. This role is well suited for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, evolving environment and enjoys solving complex problems through technology. You look beyond the initial request to understand the underlying need, identify system and process gaps, and develop practical solutions that are effective, maintainable, and appropriately controlled. You are comfortable creating structure where it does not yet exist and taking ownership of work from initial discovery through implementation and ongoing improvement. Success in this role goes beyond maintaining Workday. You will help shape the future of Oklo’s Workday ecosystem, improve how our teams work, and enable the company to scale with confidence. Specific responsibilities may include: Workday Ownership and Configuration Serve as the primary functional administrator and subject matter expert for Workday Core HCM and related modules. Configure, maintain, and optimize all aspects of the Workday tenant, including organizations, staffing models, business processes, security, reporting, calculated fields, validations, approvals, notifications, and other system settings. Partner with business and technical stakeholders to evaluate, prioritize, and implement Workday enhancements by translating business needs into scalable, secure, and well-controlled solutions using delivered functionality whenever practical Own and maintain Workday administrator and user documentation, configuration standards, and business processes, to ensure governance is maintained and the platform is configured and used consistently across Oklo. Develop and maintain the Workday roadmap by evaluating new functionality, industry best practices, and evolving business needs to continuously improve the platform while balancing innovation with long-term scalability and maintainability. Release, Project, and Change Management Evaluate Workday biannual releases, assess feature impacts, recommend adoption strategies, and coordinate implementation of new functionality. Lead or support system implementations, module expansions, major enhancements, and optimization initiatives from discovery through post-production stabilization. Define requirements, develop testing strategies, coordinate user acceptance testing, and manage production-readiness activities, data conversion, validation, reconciliation, cutover planning, and post-deployment monitoring. Partner with internal stakeholders, third-party vendors, and implementation partners to deliver successful solutions, clearly communicate system changes, and develop training and adoption resources. Evaluate dependencies, risks, security considerations, and the potential impact of changes on reporting, payroll, integrations, and other downstream systems. Reporting, Data, and Integrations Improve data quality through audits, reconciliations, and exception reporting to proactively identify and resolve data issues. Build and maintain Workday reports, dashboards, calculated fields, notifications, and scheduled reporting that provide leaders and operational teams with timely, reliable, and appropriately secured information. Support integrations between Workday and internal or third-party systems, including requirements definition, data mapping, testing, reconciliation, monitoring, and issue resolution. Security, Governance, and Support Configure and maintain Workday security in partnership with IT, Security, People Operations, and other system owners. Support access reviews, internal and external audits, and compliance requirements, including maintaining the configurations and documentation needed for SOX controls, data privacy, and other governance obligations. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience. 6+ years of hands-on experience configuring and supporting Workday HCM as a system administrator or functional owner in a production environment, including deep functional expertise in Workday Core HCM, business processes, calculated fields, reporting, and multiple Workday modules across the employee lifecycle. Experience leading Workday releases, enhancements, testing, production deployments, and integrations. Strong understanding of HR processes, employee data, security, privacy, and data governance. Ability to manage multiple priorities, collaborate across functional and technical teams, and communicate clearly with a range of stakeholders. Bonus Qualifications: Workday Pro accreditation or Workday partner certification. Advanced experience with Workday Security, Payroll, integrations, or reporting. Experience in a public company, SOX-controlled environment, or rapidly growing organization. Experience using automation or AI to improve HR systems, reporting, testing, or support. Competencies We are looking for a Senior Workday Systems Analyst that is: Passionate about clean energy Passionate about making advanced fission a reality Willing and able to learn quickly Eager to work on a dynamic team, receive constructive feedback, and grow with us Willing to think differently and do things in new ways Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment Excited to think creatively, critically, and reflectively about the problems they are solving, while not leaning only on what has been done before Willing to propose novel and creative solutions to technical problems An excellent writer who can write in modern active voice, so make your cover letter compelling and write it well! Able to communicate technical content and results verbally Who you are: A startup person: You aren't driven by titles or hierarchy, and prefer efficiency to excess process. You don't need or expect to have a lot of guidance but you enjoy working in a fast-paced team. If you prefer the culture and feel of a large organization, that is great, but you likely won’t enjoy working with us! There is plenty of important work and plenty of good opportunities with organizations like that. Motivated: You are self-motivated. You bring an enthusiasm to the team, and imbue a sense of passion that goes beyond clocking in and clocking out. This isn’t about a fake or arbitrary “pieces of flair” mentality or lack of work-life balance! It is about being a part of the vision and feeling a part of reaching team goals. A team-player: Oklo genuinely is a team. We aren’t about taking credit for ourselves, and we aren’t about pushing blame to others. We do incredible things because we work as a team. An excellent communicator: We need a person who is not only technically competent but also a clear and upbeat communicator. Creative: Being creative means that when things fall outside clear scopes or processes or problems arise without clear solutions, you are able to identify it as well as invent ways to solve a problem or fill a need…
